Medicare rebates are available for sessions conducted by psychologists when a current GP referral (Mental Health Care Plan) is presented at initial session. Medicare rebates are for up to 10 sessions per calendar year and we can process them onsite. For general psychologists the rebate is $96.65 per session or you may choose to use your Private Health Insurance to obtain rebate depending on your level of cover.
We are happy to discuss with you any questions.

The Department of Health has a fact sheet for patients about Medicare benefits

The First Session

Our psychologist will contact you directly to organise the first session at a convenient time for you. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification before attending. When you attend the first session you will be ask to complete a registration form and to provide referral information if you have a formal referral by a medical practitioner. Please be aware that you don't need a referral to attend a session but you won't be able to claim a Medicare rebate at this time. If you are planning to use your private health insurance you don't need a referral to attend and you will still be able to apply for a rebate as per your insurance cover.
The session will be of an hour lenght and the psychologist will ask you questions to understand the reasons for attending. The psychologist will make you feel welcome and will help you by asking you questions in order to asses the problem and to discuss treatment directions.
You will be working with your psychologist to formulate the presenting problem and goals for treatment.
The psychologist will explain to you confidentiality and exceptions that you need to know about. Together with your psychologist you will be deciding on the frequency of the sessions and you will be offer to schedule the next session.
